Having trouble removing stains? Instead of just painting over an unsightly stain; Here are suggestions to remove stains on freshly painted surfaces. Please follow the safety instructions for any house hold products your are using. Also any cleaning product/applicator, including warm water and a rag, can potentially change the appearance of the paint, so start with a small part before trying over a larger area.
Remove Crayon & Washable Markers
◾For less severe marks, try using a wet sponge with dishwasher detergent
◾For stubborn marks, sprinkle a pinch of baking soda and scrub in a circular motion.
◾For the most severe marks, spray WD-40 on a soft cloth and wipe in a circular motion. To remove the lubricant residue use a wet sponge with dishwasher detergent
Scuff Marks, Pencil and Dirt
◾For less severe marks, try using a wet sponge with dishwasher detergent
◾For stubborn marks, add non-gel toothpaste to a damp cloth and wipe in a circular motion
◾For the most stubborn marks, sprinkle a pinch of baking soda and scrub in a circular motion.
◾Alternative solution for pencil marks and scuffs is to use an art gum eraser.
◾Alternative solution for pen marks is to use alcohol based household cleaners. Excessive pressure or wiping can burnish the paint.
Gum
◾Hold a plastic bag of ice on the gum to harden it. Scrape off with a spatula. Then use a rag with a house hold cleaner and wipe in a circular motion
Greasy Kitchen
◾Use an ammonia based household cleaner and start washing at the bottom of the wall and work your way up. This will limit the cleaner from running down the dirty part of the wall and causing hard to remove streaks.
Permanent Marker
◾These are the most difficult marks to completely remove. Visit your local hardware store for solvent suggestions and follow the manufacturers recommendations.
◾You will have better luck with higher gloss paints; so for flat or satin paints it is easier to just prime and use touch up paint on the wall. Call us at Paint Kings and we can help
